In my last post I pointed out some of the many ways in which Donald Trump is dumb as a stump. Here’s one more:
Quartz points out an incredibly stupid comment Trump made during an interview with the Wall Street Journal regarding the history of China and Korea. Here is that comment:
[Xi] then went into the history of China and Korea. Not North Korea, Korea. And you know, you’re talking about thousands of years …and many wars. And Korea actually used to be a part of China.
Which is completely wrong, of course. Although China and Korea have had a complex relationship the past couple thousand years or so, Korea has never been a part of China. The Washington Post [link] has a quick low-down on that history, if you’re interested.
It’s not clear if Trump misunderstood Xi, since they were speaking through an interpreter, or if Xi was imposing his own nationalistic views, but it was irresponsible of Trump to say something so obviously untrue. Anyway, Trump should have cracked a book and boned up on the history of the region. If he did then he would have at least had an overview of its history. But he didn’t and that’s why he’s a dummy.
My apologies to Sean Spicer, whom I keep referring to as a “dumb motherfucker.” He is, but clearly Trump has him beat. With tensions on the Korean peninsula running so high such ignorance does not inspire confidence.
