Donald Trump is approaching the 100-day mark of his presidency and the White House is struggling on how to spin it. The Trump presidency, thus far, has been relatively ineffective. While that may be a worthy point of ridicule, I think it should also be a relief for decent, freedom-loving Americans that Trump and (most) of his administration is a soup sandwich and can’t pull off their most alarming proposals. In the long run, though, Trump’s incompetency is concerning. We have a long way to go still and a lot can happen in three-and-three-quarter years.
Anyway, I was perusing through CNN’s list of Trump’s “accomplishments,” touted by the White House and it occurred to me that the list sounds a lot like a young person padding a resume to get his or her first job. Hey, man, if you were ever a young person who wrote, “Coordinated operational conditions for teams of 3 to 25 personnel in order to facilitate productivity assets for the organization,” or some other similar bullshit on your resume you know what I mean. (As a side note, I notice a lot of people already in their careers still write such bullshit on their resumes – just browse through LinkedIn sometime). No shame, everyone does it when they start out. But when one is president I’d think that one would have outgrown that sort of thing. Most of the “accomplishments” on the White House list are, yes, stuff that Trump’s done, but there is actually very little substance in that list.
But let’s be fair: Trump likely never had to write a resume before. This is because he never had to apply for a fucking job. That is, until 2016 when he was “hired” by the American people based mostly on a padded resume (and maybe a little help from the Russians? I don’t know, just sayin’…). I mean, we’ve all padded our resume in the beginning, right?
Just kidding about being fair. This is the President of the United States we’re talking about. This has to do with us, our lives, our families. This is the leader of the free world and we have…this guy. While it’s good that Trump has accomplished little in the way of his small-minded, hate-mongering agendas, his incompetency inspires little confidence that he can pull the nation together in a time of real crisis. And I’m not counting on Trump’s relative ineffectiveness in his first 100 days to be an indication for the rest of his presidency. There is still plenty of time for him to fuck you over.
